(Salem) – Governor Ted Kulongoski announced June 16, 2010 the appointment of James Egan to the Linn County Circuit Court. Judge Egan will fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Rick McCormick which was effective May 31, 2010.
“James is an incredibly bright, engaging and energetic person who will be a tremendous asset to the Linn County bench,” said Governor Kulongoski. “I am very pleased to appoint a lawyer with his work ethic to serve as a judge. I believe his service on the bench will be an asset to the citizens of Linn County and the State of Oregon.”
Egan received his JD from the University of Oregon Law School in 1985 and holds a bachelors degree from Willamette University. Currently a shareholder of the Linn County firm Kryger Alexander Egan Elmer & Carlson PC, Egan has practiced law in Albany for over twenty years.
Egan served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1979 to 1982, and the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves from 1983 to 1996. In 2005, he returned to active reserve status with the U.S. Army Reserves and was deployed to Kuwait as the Deputy Command Judge Advocate for the Commander. He is a past president of the Oregon Trial Lawyers Association.
Egan expects to be sworn in by July 15, 2010. There will be another vacancy on July 31, 2010 with the retirement of Judge Glen Baisinger. The Governor has decided not to fill that vacancy by appointment.
